Understanding Quilt Fabric Panel
What kind of baby quilt pattern for one panel and blocks?
I want to make my sister a baby quilt, she is expecting a girl in December. I bought a My Little Pony panel on Ebay... it's approx 16"x16". I also have a small piece of fabric with probably 12 5"x5" squares that would have more My Little Ponies to add through-out the quilt. I'm just having a hard time finding a pattern that would go well with what I have. I have tons of other fabric to fill in.. I just need to find the best way to incorporate the My Little Pony pieces.
Answer:
Put a 4 1/2" border around the panel. This will increas the center panel to about 20"
Cut more of the 5" squares, although the cut should be 5 1/2" to allow for the standard 1/4" seam allowance.
Use a co-ordinating or contrasting color and arrange around the bordered panel with the pony prints. This should increase the bordered panel to 30".
Then add a 5 1/2" outer border and you will have the size quilt that you are aiming for - 40"
Determine the finish size of a block or border and then 1/2" for cutting measurement.
