Quilters, Please help with a 9 patch block help...?
I am a newbie to "quilting" and sewing as well. I have a couple of questions I would llike to ask. I am wanting to make a basic 9 patch block quilt using 2 colors per block. My question is (I know what I want to say, it's just hard without showing what I speak of and not using my hands to pont it out) When it says for me to leave a 1/4" seam allowance, does this mean all sides when I sew, or just the top. I just want my corners to look "ok" My other question is, Did I already mess up by cutting my blocks out first? One web-site says cut blocks first then another web-site says use strip piercing...hmmmm this confuses me. Basically I want my corners to look ok for my small quilt, and what is the best way to acheive this? Thanks to all that read this, and thanks for answering my zillion questions.

Answer:
To get good sharp corners you need to be VERY exact on your seam allowance.
Sew the first strip together (blocks 1,2,3,4,5...etc) for the next row start with block 2 and your last block will be #1. (following rows will be 3,4,5,6,1,2; 4,5,6,1,2,3; 5,6,1,2,3,4; 6,1,2,3,4,5; 1,2,3,4,5,6) When you sew the strips together match up the seams and PIN, PIN,PIN. Use every pin in your pincushion if you have to. Then sew it up. Taking care to be sure the corners are matched up. Yes it is a PAIN in the behind but for a small quilt it will be easier than on a large one.
