Comforter or Duvet, What Is The Best Choice?
Who doesn't want to have a cozy and inviting bed? How you dress your bed is an important factor in the comfort level and overall style of your bed. Comforters and duvets are two popular types of bed covers that are used most commonly.
Think of a duvet as a very large pillow case, closed on three sides and an opening on the back end. The opening is usually closed shut by buttons, a zipper, or snaps. A down comforter or lighter weight synthetic comforter is usually slipped inside the duvet and then placed on top of the bed. Duvet covers are typically made from cotton and can be a solid color or a printed pattern to suit your style. A plain white comforter can be transformed by a beautiful duvet cover. Duvets are practical in that they will protect your down comforter investment, and can be easily removed and washed. Duvet covers can be changed according to the seasons or changes in your room decor. A top sheet is not needed when using a duvet since the duvet cover is the only thing that comes in contact with the skin. Making the bed is a snap too, since all the duvet needs is a good shake to fluff it back up and then it is placed back on top of the bed.
A comforter, on the other hand, is usually a thick type of blanket meant to be used with a set of sheets. Comforters are usually made with a filling of synthetic or natural material and encased with a fabric like cotton, velvet, or silk depending on your taste. Some people prefer comforters because there is no shifting or bunching that occurs like when using a duvet cover. Comforters are not as practical as a duvet since most need to be professionally dry cleaned when soiled. A comforter, matching sheet set and decorative pillows can make for a beautiful and cozy bed. Comforters are often quilted and reversible which can add extra options to your bedding wardrobe.
Do your tastes change on a whim, do you like to be able to launder your bedding easily and adjust for changes in the weather? If so, a duvet is probably the best choice. Do you like the look of a completely coordinated bed and like to use luxurious fabrics such as velvet or silk? A comforter is what you are looking for.
